EP Cargo is expanding its fleet with brand new BOMBARDIER TRAXX AC locomotives

Prosek, January 31, 2018 – EP Cargo, one of the daughter companies of EPH, and rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation have signed a contract for the delivery of brand new BOMBARDIER TRAXX AC3 locomotives. The locomotives will be used for freight transport in Germany. Delivery of the first vehicle is scheduled for end of March 2018.

“This contract is a first step in EP Cargo’s investment program which includes the expansion of our locomotive fleet. For the first time EP Cargo purchases brand new AC locomotives, which will be operating in Germany. We plan to put two new TRAXX locomotives into service for the transport of Gypsum from our power plant LEAG to Stralsund.” – said Rudiger Lorentz, Managing Director EP Cargo DE.

The newest generation of Bombardier’s TRAXX locomotive family consists of the TRAXX AC3 locomotive (alternating current), TRAXX DC3 locomotive (direct current) as well as the TRAXX MS3 locomotive (multi-system, all main currents in Europe) and the TRAXX Diesel Multi-Engine locomotive. It has many strengths from operator’s view: Amongst other things, it´s energy costs are low due to reduced energy consumption depending on the operational loads and because of its regenerative braking system. The locomotives will be manufactured at Bombardier site in Kassel, the carbodies come from Wroclaw/Poland

More than 1000 TRAXX locomotives are currently operating in Germany and Czech Republic. TRAXX is viewed as the most successful locomotive platform in Europe with over 2000 locomotives sold for freight and passenger service. The TRAXX locomotives will complement the fleet of machines Siemens Vectron that EP Cargo already owns. Bombardier is market leader for modern locomotives in the Czech Republic, with already 46 locomotives sold.
